Spring Bear Wake-Up Social: May 10

Bear Smart Durango presents the First Annual Spring Bear Wake-Up Social, a fun and educational community event to raise awareness as black bears emerge from winter dens to begin a bear season anew with an emphasis on preventing human-bear interactions and conflict.

Thursday, May 10
4 to 8PM
Durango Discovery Museum

4 PM:
• Kids' activities with Durango Nature Studies (including a gluten-free Bear Scat Eating Contest - They're actually quite yummy!) Bear-related costumes are encouraged!
• Live music with Darcy Cole
• Electric fencing, bear-resistant containers and bear spray demonstrations 
Food and beverages will be available

6 PM:
Keynote speaker Laura Pritchett, author of “Great Colorado Bear Stories,” gives a slideshow talk in the Powerhouse Theater

6:45 PM:
An open mic for your bear stories - and fabulous door prizes!

Parking is very limited, so park nearby and walk to the event either via the 12th Street crossing at Camino del Rio or the Animas River Trail. Or, ride your bikes!
